Beyond the Streets - Protection • Guidance • Prevention
About Beyond the Streets
Beyond the Streets is a preventative safeguarding education programme designed to support schools in helping young people recognise exploitation, understand the realities of violence, and make safer decisions.
Founded by Angela Nicholas, the programme draws upon over 18 years of experience working in education and health and social care settings. Workshops are delivered in structured, discussion-based formats that encourage students to think critically about issues such as grooming, gang recruitment, peer pressure, substance misuse and violence.
The programme focuses on prevention — helping young people recognise risk early and understand that there is always another choice.

Why Beyond the Streets Was Created
Working with young people for many years in education, I became increasingly aware of the complex pressures many teenagers face. Issues such as exploitation, peer pressure, violence and substance misuse are often discussed only after something has already gone wrong.
During my career, I have seen how easily young people can be influenced by environments, friendships and situations that develop very quickly. Many students simply do not realise the potential consequences of the choices they are being encouraged to make.
Beyond the Streets was created to open honest conversations with young people before those situations escalate.
The programme focuses on awareness, understanding and empowering young people to recognise risk, make informed decisions, and understand that there is always another choice.
My motivation for developing this work is also personal. Like many families, mine has experienced how complex and frightening these situations can become. That experience reinforced my belief that prevention, education and open dialogue are essential in helping young people navigate the challenges they face today.
Beyond the Streets brings together my professional experience in education and safeguarding with a commitment to supporting young people, families and schools in building safer communities

Meet The Founder
I created Beyond the Streets because, through both professional experience and personal circumstances, I became increasingly aware of the growing risks facing young people today. The tragic loss of one of my students to youth violence, alongside my own son being targeted and groomed by a gang while still in Year 8, highlighted just how vulnerable teenagers can be to exploitation and manipulation.
These experiences strengthened my determination to help schools provide preventative education that equips young people with the awareness and confidence needed to recognise danger, resist coercion and make safer choices.
With over 18 years of experience working with young people across education and other youth-focused settings, I have seen first-hand how quickly situations can escalate when young people lack the knowledge or support needed to navigate difficult environments.
Through Beyond the Streets, I deliver structured safeguarding workshops that support schools in raising awareness of violence, exploitation and grooming, while empowering young people with the knowledge and confidence needed to protect themselves and seek help when needed.
